Gurman: 2019 iPhones to Boast Improved Shatter Resistance, Multi-Angle Face ID

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has published the features he expects to see when Apple unveils its 2019 iPhone lineup in what should be less than three weeks.

Gurman shared new details, as well as reiterating previous rumors about the new handsets. He also mentioned possibilities for upcoming iPads, the Apple Watch, the HomePod, and new Airpods.

Gurman expects to see the iPhone gain the much-rumored triple-lens rear camera system on the high-end models, which are expected to enable a larger field of view for capturing wide-angle photos and videos, as well as improving low-light photos. He also expects to see new video editing tools that will be available while recording video.

He says the new high-end iPhones will be nearly identical to current models from the front, but some colors may have a new matte finish on the back. Gurman adds the new iPhones could be more resilient, thanks to a “new shatter-resistance technology.”

Gurman believes a new multi-angle Face ID sensor that captures a wider field of view will enable users to unlock the next iPhones more easily, even when the handsets are laying flat on a table. “Dramatically enhanced” water resistance, and faster A13 processors are also on the list.

Gurman also agrees that we’ll see a 10.2-inch iPad Pro launch later this year.

Changes to the Apple Watch are said to be “more muted,” mostly involving watchOS 6 and new case finishes. (Last week, iHelpBR discovered references to new titanium and ceramic 40mm and 44mm Apple Watch models included in the latest watchOS 6 beta.

Gurman also mentions a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, new water-resistant and noise cancelling AirPods, and a cheaper HomePod with reduced tweeters that could hit shelves in 2020.

Apple is expected to unveil the new 2019 iPhone lineup on September 10. The event could also see the debut of the new Apple Watch, as well as other products.
