Apple Releases watchOS 5.3.2 Update for Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2

Apple on Thursday released watchOS 5.3.2, an update for the Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch Series 2. Although watchOS 6 is now available, it hasn’t yet been released for those two models.

WatchOS 5.3.2 can be installed via the Apple Watch app on the device’s attached iPhone. Go to “General” -> “Software Update” to install the new software. The Apple Watch should have at least 50% battery life, be connected to a charger, and be in range of the iPhone.

Apple’s release notes indicate the update provides important security updates and is recommended for all users. The related security support document says the update fixes a vulnerability that could allow a remote attacker to be able to cause unexpected application termination or arbitrary code execution. It addresses an out-of-bounds read with improved input validation. Samuel Groß and Natalie Silvanovich of Google Project Zero are credited with disclosure of the flaw.

While watchOS 6 has been released to the public, the new wearable operating system is not yet ready for the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2 models. The devices may receive the new version with the release of watchOS 6.1, which is currently in beta testing.
