How to Restore Color to Your watchOS 6 Infograph Watch Face

Apple Watch owners that make use of one of the popular Infograph watch faces on their Watch may have been surprised to find that the watch face has gone monochromatic after updating their favorite wearable to watchOS 6.

While this may seem like a bug, the move is intentional, and is meant to introduce what Apple calls “new monochrome complications in Infograph and Infograph Modular” in the watchOS 6 release notes.

The monochrome style appears by default after the watchOS 6 update, no matter what color options you previously were using. You can restore your previous color settings by doing the following:

  1. On your Apple Watch, hard press on the monochrome Infograph watch face until you see the “Customize” option appear.
  2. Tap “Customize.”
  3. Use the Digital Crown to scroll up and down to select either the Black or White color option. On the Infograph Modular faces, scroll up and select “Multicolor.”
  4. Press the Digital Crown twice to select the option and exit the Customize screen.

Or, you can change the face in the Watch app on the iPhone. Tap the “My Watch” tab, then tap the watch face that needs to be changed (it’s in the “My Faces” area),  then select Black, White, or Multicolor from the color options.
