New Photos Demonstrating iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro Camera’s Night Mode Are Beginning to Appear

Apple’s new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro both feature upgraded camera systems that offers some impressive new features. One of those features is Night Mode, which uses Apple’s machine learning and hardware to provide improved photos taken in low light.

The feature was demonstrated on stage at Apple’s media event on Tuesday, but real-world examples are beginning to surface on the internet.

Nomad Management Modeling Agency founder Coco Rocha tweeted a night shot that compares the difference between the iPhone 11 and the older iPhone X.

As you can see, there is a drastic difference between the two shots. While the iPhone 11 shot shows full detail of the model and her surroundings, the iPhone X photos is too dark and will require additional image processing to be usable.

Night Mode – which is available on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max – is designed to work without the flash to produce natural looking, bright photos in low light. The process makes use of the updated Wide camera lens on the new iPhones.

The feature is activated automatically when it’s needed, and Apple has explained how it works. The mode takes multiple consecutive photos while using optical stabilization to steady the lens.

The iPhone’s software then aligns the images to correct the image for movement, gets rid of blur, and joins the sharper images together. The contrast is adjusted, and colors are fine-tuned for a natural look. Noise reduction is applied and details enhanced. The results are as seen above.

The new iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max will go on sale starting tomorrow, September 13, with pre-orders beginning at 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time. the iPhones will hit store shelves on Friday, September 20.
