Apple TV+ Original Series ‘The Morning Show’ Receives Multiple SAG Awards Nominations

The Apple TV+ original series, “The Morning Show” has been nominated for three Screen Actors Guild Awards for outstanding female actor and outstanding male actor.

Jennifer Aniston – who plays Alex Levy, lead host on the titular morning news show – was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. Reese Witherspoon, who plays novice co-host Bradley Jackson in “The Morning Show” was not nominated.

Aniston is up for the award against Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Olivia Coleman (Queen Elizabeth II) from “The Crown,” Jodie Comer (Villanelle) from “Killing Eve,” and Elisabeth Moss (June/Offred) from “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

Steve Carell and Billy Crudup, who play disgraced former host Mitch Kessler and network executive Corey Ellison, respectively, are up for the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series award.

Both actors will be competing against Sterling K. Brown (Randall Pearson) from “This Is Us,” Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) from “Game of Thrones,” and David Harbour (Jim Hopper) from “Stranger Things.”

The nominations are just the latest in a string of nominations for “The Morning Show.”

On Sunday, Billy Crudrup received a Critics Choice Association nomination for Best Supporting Actor.  On Monday, Apple’s flagship show received Golden Globes award nominations across multiple categories, including for Best TV Series Drama. In addition, stars Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon scored nominations for the Best Actress category.

The SAG Awards are given by the Screen Actors Guild (it is basically actors giving awards to themselves, so that’s nice) and is considered one of the major Hollywood award events. Also a major event, The Golden Globes Awards are given out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The SAG awards is scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2020, while the Golden Globes will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

Overall, the critics’ reaction to The Morning Show has been lukewarm at best, while viewers have a higher opinion of the show. Review aggregation website Metacritic, The Morning Show has a Metascore from critics of 59 out of 100. However, users give it an average score of 7.4 out of 10.
