iOS and Android Speedtest Apps Now Include Free VPN Service

Currently, there are 3,897,451,476 VPNs on the market. (Okay, that’s just a rough estimate.) So, why not one more? Speedtest.net has added VPN functionality to its iOS and Android apps.

While the company has plans for a paid tier of service, at the moment, only a free plan with a monthly 2GB data cap is available. Currently, no desktop app is available.

The VPN is pretty much a bare-bones service, but its free, and it might keep you from having your online antics monitored while you’re sitting at the gate waiting on your flight this holiday season.

Speedtest says it doesn’t collect any usage logs, which is fairly standard for most VPN services. (However, some free VPN services do track their users online travels, then sell that info to advertisers.)

The app selects a VPN server for you, so the service isn’t helpful if you’re looking to access blocked content from a foreign country.

If you don’t currently have a VPN on your iPhone, Speedtest will likely keep you incognito, and it is part of the Speedtest app, which you may already have installed on your iPhone. So, there is that.

The Speedtest app is free for the iPhone and iPad and is available in the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
