Opera Launches Gaming-Centric Browser ‘Opera GX’ for the Mac

Opera has launched its gaming-centric browser, Opera GX, for the Mac. The browser is designed to “compliment gaming” on the Mac. Opera says the goal of the new browser is to help gamers get “the most out of both gaming and browsing.”

The new browser offers several features, including a feature called GX Control, which allows users to set limits on the browser’s system resource usage. Opera says a survey showed that lack of memory and network limitations are the two main issues for gamers, which is why the new browser was designed with the idea of limiter controls for CPU, RAM, and network bandwidth.

Opera GX offers a unique set of features that provides solutions to these problems. The set of browser limiters, which includes a Network Bandwidth Limiter, as well as CPU and RAM Limiters, prevents the browser from becoming resource-hungry. What this means in practice is that everyone’s machines are left with more resources for running games.

The browser also includes numerous other features aimed at gamers needs, including Twitch accessibility from the sidebar, integrated Facebook Messenger, Telegram, Vkontakte, and WhatsApp messaging, picture-in-picture stream viewing, a free VPN, an ad blocker, and several custom theme options.

The macOS version of the Opera GX browser is available for download in early access mode. For more information, visit the Opera website.
