Apple Considering Original Podcasts to Promote Apple TV+ Films and Shows

Bloomberg reports Apple is considering creating original podcasts that would promote the TV shows and movies shown on its Apple TV+ streaming service.

As early as the summer of 2019, Apple began asking podcast producers to pitch ideas for podcasts that would have connections to Apple TV+ shows. The Cupertino firm has since discussed the podcasts with producers of its original series, according to the report’s sources, “who asked not to be identified because the plans aren’t final.”

Apple’s streaming service, which debuted in November 2019, has been faced with how to gain viewers while they’re currently offering less content than other new and existing streaming services, such as Hulu, Disney+, and Netflix. Podcasts could be a way to turn listeners into viewers of Apple’s streaming content.

The podcast idea isn’t a new one, as Apple TV+ competitor Netflix currently offers podcasts that provide behind the scenes looks at their shows.

The report states nothing is yet set in stone and it isn’t clear when Apple TV+ related podcasts might begin showing up on the podcast landscape. And that’s only if Apple decides to give the green light on the project. Stay tuned.
