Gmail for iOS App Adds Integration With Apple’s Files App for Adding Attachments

Google has released a new version of its Gmail app for iOS devices, adding the ability to allow users to upload attachments from Apple’s Files app.

The feature is currently rolling out, so it might not yet be available to you. When the feature does become available, you’ll be able to tap the paperclip icon when you’re composing or replying to a message in the Gmail app. You’ll see a sheet appear with sections for “Camera roll” and “Attachments” (previously named “Recent attachments”).

Getting started

  • End users: This feature will be available by default. In the Gmail iOS app, when composing or replying to an email, click the attachment icon and scroll to the “Attachments” section. Then select the folder icon to select an attachment from the Files app.

Rollout pace

  • Rapid Release domains: Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starting on February 12, 2020
  • Scheduled Release domains: Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starting on February 12, 2020

The new Attachments area will feature a special folder icon you can tap to directly access the contents of the files app on your iOS device. The feature allows access to the native search and selection tools of the Apple Files extension.

The Gmail app for iOS is a free download from the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
