Apple Books sent out a push notification to U.S. readers on Sunday, offering free books and audiobooks for a limited time only. So far, the offer appears to be a U.S.-only offer.
The push notification reads:

Explore free books, read-alongs for kids, cozy mysteries, and audiobooks for the whole family.
If a user taps on the notification, they are sent to the “Free Books” page in the Apple Books Store. There, readers can find a wide variety of novels from various genres, download Apple’s numerous “Everyone Can Create” how-to books, browse free audiobooks of all types, or select a new book from Apple’s ‘First in a Series, Free’ tab.
Apple is apparently offering the freebies to folks shut-in by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. No word on how long the freebie promotion will last, so better take advantage of the free reads and free audiobooks while you can!
