Code Found in iOS 14 Suggests an ‘iPhone SE 2’ ‘Plus’ Model

Apple’s much-rumored lower-priced “iPhone SE 2” (or “iPhone 9”) handset could be joined by a “plus” model. The news comes in code found in code leaks from iOS 14, found by 9to5Mac.

“First of all, it seems that Apple is also working on a larger version of the iPhone 9, which may be named iPhone 9 Plus (or at least the Plus moniker of whatever Apple dubs this line). That would make sense considering that these iPhones should replace the iPhone 8 lineup, which features the 4.7- and 5.5-inch versions.

Evidence indicates that both will run with the A13 Bionic chip, the same processor used in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. This should make iPhone 9 more attractive for those who still use older models such as the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 7, since some people prefer not to spend money on high-end smartphones.”

The new handsets are expected to be powered by the same A13 Bionic chip used in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. However, externally, they are said to resemble the iPhone 8, using a solid-state Home button that supports Touch ID rather than using Face ID. The solid-state Home button would use haptic feedback from the Taptic Engine to acknowledge presses.

While Apple had been expected to unveil the “iPhone SE 2” in March, the coronavirus outbreak has reportedly delayed PCB shipments for the device into the second quarter. However, conflicting reports indicate the handset is in its final production stages.
