13-inch MacBook Pro Could Get a May Update, Says Leaker

Well-known leaker Jon Prosser says Apple will announce a replacement for the current 13-inch MacBook Pro sometime in May, “if everything goes well.”

Prosser’s prediction comes in the form of a tweet from Saturday. Prosser says the new MacBook, codename J223) could actually boast a 14-inch screen.

Prosser’s comments jibe with a prediction from well-connected Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has previously said Apple would release new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models with scissor keyboards in the second quarter of 2020. Apple released a new MacBook Air with a new keyboard last month, so that leaves a new MacBook Pro model to fulfill the prophecy.

Kuo has also mentioned a 14-inch model MacBook in the past, and if that came to pass, it is likely that the new model would replace the current 13-inch model in the MacBook Pro lineup.

Current 13-inch MacBook Pro models still use the much-maligned butterfly keyboards, which can suffer from multiple issues, including sticky or unresponsive keys following prolonged use. Apple initiated a free keyboard repair program back in 2018. The recent 13-inch Mac Book Air and 16-inch MacBook Air releases feature a new Magic Keyboard, which features a scissor keyboard mechanism.

Prosser’s reliable track record has been based on Google leaks in the past, and he has only recently begun sharing Apple rumors, so only time will tell if his information proved to be accurate.
