Apple Has So Far Shipped a Total of 7.5 Million Face Shields

Apple has so far constructed and shipped a total of 7.5 million face shields for medical workers around the world. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the news during today’s fiscal second quarter 2020 earnings call.

Apple announced in early April that its engineers and supplier companies would construct face shields for medical workers that were battling the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Apple is currently constructing and shipping face shields at a rate of one million shields per week.

Apple has also sourced and donated more than 20 million N95 masks to healthcare workers around the world, which are critical for use by health workers that are exposed to COVID-19 on a daily basis.

Cook also announced the Apple COVID-19 screening app has been downloaded more than two million times, while the web version of the app has been visited by 3 million unique visitors. The app was developed in partnership with the CDC, FEMA, and the White House Coronavirus Task Force.

The Cupertino firm has also donated millions of dollars to various causes to battle the spread of COVID-19 and has worked with Google to develop an exposure notification API that public health authorities around the globe will use to create apps to track users’ exposure to the coronavirus.
