YouTube Kids is Now Available on Apple TV

Google’s kids-focused “YouTube Kids” app is finally available on the Apple TV platform. The app offers a kid-friendly interface for accessing curated content.

The app offers kid-friendly content from YouTube, presented in an easy-to-use interface, and doesn’t include ads or external links. Content can be accessed without a login.

The YouTube Kids app sources content from popular sources like Noggin and PBS, but also includes user-submitted content, some of which has been criticized in the past for being bizarre.

The app’s delay in coming to the Apple TV platform is likely due to the Apple TV’s lack of support for Google’s video codecs. Apple TV 4K only supports the H.265/HEVC codecs for 4K content. Google uses its own proprietary VP9 codec for 4K content, so it still only offers HD content via its Apple TV app.
