Apple Music ‘Africa Rising’ Program Highlights African Artists and Musicians

Apple Music earlier this week launched a new “Africa Rising” artist discovery initiative that includes a playlist highlighting emerging artists and musicians from Africa.

The Apple Music editorial team will select an artist from the African continent to highlight every two months. A companion playlist will also feature songs from some of Africa’s newest emerging artists.

The subject of the first “Africa RIsing” spotlight is Nigeria-based Omah Lay, best known for his afro-fusion album “Get Layd.”

“I have always used Apple Music, seeing my favorite artists on playlist covers and features, but here I am looking pretty as Apple Music’s first Africa Rising artist. I am overwhelmed, dreams really do come true,” Lay said in a statement.

The playlist also features other artists, including Rema, Fireboy DML, Terri, and Sha Sha, among others.
