Steve Jobs Signed Magazine Cover Goes Up For Auction on July 30

A copy of Fortune magazine signed by Apple co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs is going up for auction on July 30. The magazine should be alluring to collectors of Apple memorabilia, due to Jobs’ well-known reluctance to sign items for fans.

The magazine, Fortune’s 9 October 1989 issue, features Jobs on the cover and was published on the heels of the launch of his company, NeXT. The listing (Lot #152) – through Nate D. Sanders Auctions – says the magazine is signed in black ink “To Terry, steve jobs” in a lower-case signature.

The original recipient of the signature was one of Jobs’ drivers who asked for the autograph after years of driving the former Apple CEO around for several years. While the driver had known Jobs for years, the Apple co-founder still called the limousine company to complain about the autograph request.

The auction is for the magazine cover only, none of the inside pages of the issue are included. The cover is affixed to an autograph album page and is described to be in “near fine condition with a bold signature” by the auction house. A certificate of authenticity from James Spence Authentication, a letter of authenticity from “Terry” and his first-year performance review from the limousine company are also included.

The cover is set to go on sale on July 30 and is expected to be purchased for a high price. Bidding will start at $11,000.

Jobs was reluctant to sign items for his fans, meaning the few items that include a Jobs signature have brought considerable sums in the past. A signed first is or Macworld brought $47,775 in 2018, while a Pixar poster went for $31,250 in 2019.
