Apple to Donate Additional Funds to West Coast Firefighting Efforts

Apple CEO Tim Cook on Friday announced via Twitter on Friday that Apple will donate additional funds to the West Coast firefighting and recovery efforts. Cook made the announcement as wildfires continue to devastate areas of Califonia and Oregon.

Apple had previously announced it was donating to fire relief efforts on August 19. A lightning storm at that time has sparked 367 fires across Santa Clara County, Santa Cruz County, Napa County, and Sonoma County in California.

Cook tweeted on Friday, saying, “Apple is making additional donations to firefighting and recovery across the West Coast. Our hearts are with those that have lost so much. The fires are an urgent reminder that we must act together to protect the planet we all share.”

While the original August 19 fires have largely been contained, the hot, dry weather has led to tinderbox conditions, allowing numerous other fires to start.

The West Coast is now in the throes of fire season, which usually lasts through October. The period traditionally suffers from high winds, low humidity, and high temperatures, all of which add up to conditions making it easy for fires to flare up.
