Bloomberg: Apple to Launch iPhone 12, iPad Air, Apple Watch Series 6, Smaller HomePod and ‘AirPods Studio’ Earphones This Fall

Apple is preparing numerous products for a fall launch, says Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman and Debby Wu. The duo on Monday shared information about Apple’s fall product launch plans. The report reiterates many of the rumors we’ve heard in the past months.

As for the iPhone 12 lineup, there are four new handsets to debut, including devices in 5.4, 6.1, and 6.7-inch sizes. Gurman and Wu say Apple will stagger the device’s launches, with the two lower-end 5.4 and 6.1-inch devices expected to ship before the “Pro” devices. The launch timeline will result in the latest release timeline since the iPhone X release in November 2017.

The report confirms previous rumors indicating the 2020 iPhone lineup will include iPad Pro-like styling, with squared edges and a new dark blue color option for Pro-level devices. The new color will replace the current Midnight Green color option. The iPhone 12 Pro models will boast stainless steel edges, while standard models will use the standard aluminum edges.

The largest iPhone models will receive the same LiDAR Scanner that is included in the 2020 iPad Pro models. Bloomberg says Apple employees have expressed disappointment with the new 5G connection feature, as current 5G networks are “not improving connection speeds much.” However, those same employees say the 6.7-inch display of the largest ‌iPhone‌ is one of this year’s “most notable improvements.”

Apple is preparing to build 75 million 5G iPhones and is anticipating that shipments of the iPhone 12 lineup could hit 80 million units in 2020.

The duo also mentions other devices in their article, including a new iPad Air with an edge-to-edge iPad Pro-type display. While Bloomberg doesn’t mention it, previous rumors have also suggested a 10.8-inch display featuring an under-display Touch ID or a Touch ID-capable power button.

The article mentions other Apple devices that will launch during the fall period, including the Apple Watch Series 6 as well as a low-cost replacement for the Series 3 Watch. Over-ear “AirPods Studio” headphones are also reportedly on the way, as is a more affordable HomnePod smart speaker.

AirTags are said to be on the way, but no information was included on a launch timeframe, and Apple is also reportedly developing an updated Apple TV, boasting a faster processor and improved remote control boasting a “Find My” feature to allow finding it when it is inevitably lost somewhere in the living room. However, the new Apple TV may not hit shelves until 2021.
