Apple Reportedly Working on Apple TV Models Boasting A12 and A14 Chips, New Controller, and More

We’ve heard several rumors that Apple is working on a new model Apple TV, and now we’ve seen a tweet by leaker Fudge (@choco_bit) on Twitter that shares some information about what we might expect from a refreshed Apple TV.

In the tweet, Fudge claims that Apple is preparing more than one new Apple TV set-top boxes, with one model powered by an A12 variant and another one that boasts an “A14X-like” chip. Fudge also claims a new controller is in the works but doesn’t make it clear whether the controller is an updated Siri Remote or a new, Apple-designed game controller.

The tweet also indicates Apple is working with developers to create console-quality games for the Apple Arcade gaming service (which is accessible on the Apple TV). The tweet points out that some games will only run on the A13 Bionic chip or later.

The iOS 13.4 beta included signs of a new A12-powered Apple TV. Previous rumors indicated the new Apple TV would offer an updated processor, has a “T1125” codename, and may feature higher capacity 64 and 128GB storage options.

Apple unveiled its A14 Bionic chip alongside the redesigned iPad Air at its September “Time Flies” event. New benchmarks indicate that the chip provides a significant performance boost over the A13 Bionic.
