Unfortunately, families practiced social distancing over the holidays, isolating in their homes instead of gathering in large groups to celebrate with family and friends. This led to Apple’s seeing the highest volume of FaceTime calls ever on Christmas.
Apple CEO Tim Cook shared that bit of information during today’s Q1 2021 earnings call. Cook did not offer up specific numbers on how many FaceTime calls were placed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the increased use of video communication services and apps, including Zoom and Apple’s FaceTime.
A contributing factor to the increased Christmas use of FaceTime was also likely attributable to the record number of device activations during the holidays, as people received Apple devices as gifts.
