Report: Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Models to Use Samsung LTPO OLED 120Hz Displays

Report: Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Models to Use Samsung LTPO OLED 120Hz Displays

A new report from TheElec says Samsung will be the exclusive provider of 120Hz LTPO OLED displays for Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro models. LTPO display technology would allow Apple to offer a 120Hz refresh rate on the higher end next-generation iPhones.

Samsung Display will be the exclusive supplier used by Apple for organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels used in the two highest tier models of its next iPhone, TheElec has learned.

Both models of iPhone 13 will use low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) thin-film transistors (TFT) OLED panels made by Samsung Display.

Apple’s iPhone 13 will have four models and all of them will use OLED panels. The top two models will use LTPO OLED that can support 120Hz refresh rate.

While it was previously reported that both LG and Samsung would provide the displays to Apple for the iPhone 13, the latest report indicates LG will be focusing on increasing its manufacturing capacity this year to begin supplying the displays next year. Apple is said to be planning to use LTPO OLED displays in all of its iPhone models in 2022.

LTPO technology would allow Apple to offer a much more efficient display, allowing for much-improved battery life or for always-on display elements. Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6 models currently use LTPO displays, allowing them to have the same 18-hour battery life as previous models while offering an always-on display.
