Jason Sudeikis Wins Golden Globe Award for Apple TV+ Comedy Series ‘Ted Lasso’

Jason Sudeikis Sunday won a Golden Globe Award for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series” in the “Musical or Comedy” category. Sudeikis scored the status for his starring role in the Apple TV+ comedy series “Ted Lasso.”

The annual Golden Globe Awards was created to honor the best of both U.S. and international film and U.S. television, as chosen by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

“Ted Lasso” stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas who is hired to coach a professional soccer team in England despite having no experience coaching soccer. The series also stars Hannah Waddingham, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, and Nick Mohammed.

Other nominees in the category included:

  • Don Cheadle – “Black Monday”
  • Nicholas Hoult – “The Great”
  • Eugene Levy – “Schitt’s Creek”
  • Ramy Youssef – “Ramy”

This is the first Golden Globe Award won by an Apple TV+ original or performer. Apple TV+ had three other nominations this year but did not win in those categories.

Ted Lasso has been renewed for a second and a third season. The second season is expected to debut during summer 2021.
