Apple Shipped an Estimated 5.7 Million Notebooks in Q1 2021 for a 94% Increase

New notebook PC shipping estimates shared today by Strategy Analytics showed Apple shipped an estimated 5.7 million MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros in the first calendar quarter of 2021. Those numbers gave Apple an 8.4% share of the notebooks market, up from 7.8% last year.

Apple snagged the number four spot worldwide among notebook makers, coming in behind Lenovo (16.3 million), HP (15.4 million), and Dell (10 million).

Apple’s 5.7 million notebooks shipped is up 94% from the 2.9 million that it shipped in the year-ago quarter. All four companies saw strong growth in sales thanks to the increased demand from users working at home during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lenovo and HP shipped a variety of PC notebooks running Windows in addition to Chromebooks, which saw strong growth in the education sector.

Total notebook PC shipments were up 81% year-over-year among all major vendors. Apple likely benefited greatly from its November launch of new M1-powered MacBook Pro and MacBook Air models.
