New MacBook Pro models will debut at Apple’s WWDC 2021, says leaker Jon Prosser. Prosser, who has a bit of a mixed record when it comes to Apple predictions, made the remarks in a tweet, seen below:
While Prosser provided no additional information, new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models are being worked on. The new laptops are said to boast the most radical MacBook Pro lineup redesigns since 2016.
A report earlier this month by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said Apple is readying new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models powered by an improved version of the M1 chip for launch as early as this summer. The new chip is said to boast a 10-core CPU with eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, with 16-core or 32-core GPU options.
Gurman says the next-generation Apple Silicon will offer support for up to 64GB of memory, which is quite a bump up from the current chip’s 16GB limitation. This will bring the Apple Silicon-powered MacBook Pro models up to par with the Intel-based MacBook Pro, which can use up to 64GB of RAM. The new chip is also said to offer support for additional Thunderbolt ports.
Gurman says the new MacBook Pro models will feature a redesigned chassis, and expanded port availability, including an SD card slot, an HDMI port, and a MagSafe magnetic charging cable.
No other prognosticators have indicated that new MacBook Pro models will debut at WWDC, and it would be a bit unusual to see new hardware debut at the event, but it has occasionally happened. We’ll just have to wait and see.
