Apple TV+ Gives Straight-to-Series Order for ‘Strange Planet’ Webcomic Adaptation

Apple TV+ has given a straight-to-series adaptation of the popular webcomic and graphic novel “Strange Planet.” The new series will have Dan Harmon and Nathan Pyle acting as executive producers.

Pyle’s books feature stories of big-eyed, bright blue “beings” from another planet. The aliens perform everyday tasks but describe them strangely. When the aliens sunbathe and sneeze, they describe them as “sun damage” and “face fluid explosions,” respectively. Pyle has released two books and regularly posts comics online.

Deadline reports that the series is produced by Apple Studios and the animation studio ShadowMachine, which was responsible for “Bojack Horseman.” The showrunner is Amalia Levari, known for “Joe Pera Talks With You.”

No further details of the series have been shared.

Apple TV+ is available on the Apple TV app in over 100 countries and regions, on over 1 billion screens, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, iPod touch, Mac, select Samsung, LG, Sony and VIZIO smart TVs, Amazon Fire TV, and Roku devices, Chromecast with Google TV, PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and at tv.apple.com, for $4.99 per month with a seven-day free trial.
