Apple Suppliers Vying for Seasonal Staff, Paying Higher Bonuses

As is traditional around this time of the year, Foxconn and other Apple suppliers are recruiting extra seasonal staff. This year, the competition for warm bodies is so intense that the companies are offering bonuses for those that sign on.

As Apple usually releases its new iPhone models in September each year, meaning the production of the devices and their components take place in July and August, requiring companies to recruit large numbers of extra workers.

As reported by the South China Morning Post, Foxconn, Luxshare, and Lens Technology have all begun recruitment drives — and are offering added signing incentives. The publication says a shrinking labor pool interested in the work has led to increased competition for staff.

Foxconn is reportedly offering a bonus of 10,200 yuan ($1,578) to new hires who stay for at least 90 days. That’s 200 yuan or $30 more than Foxconn was offering in late July 2021. Of that amount, $1,470 goes to the new hire, while $108 is paid to whoever referred them to Foxconn.

Meanwhile, Lens Technology has also increased its bonus. In February it was offering $774 to new hires, from May on it has been $1,548. Luxshare, which was recently awarded its first “iPhone 13” order from Apple, has doubled its referral bonus to $588.
