Australian Government Debuts Support for COVID-19 Digital Vaccination Certificates in Apple Wallet

As spotted by Tap Down Under, the Australian government has introduced support for adding a user’s COVID-19 vaccination digital certificates to Apple Wallet via the Express Plus Medicare app on iOS.

The Australian digital certificate can be used as official proof of COVID-19 vaccination if needed for domestic travel. The certificate is similar to the digital passes generated by other government apps.

Those users that have received two doses of the AstraZeneca or Pfizer vaccine now have access to the digital certificate through their Medicare online account or via the Medicare app. The certificate is available either as a PDF or by downloading it using the “Add to Apple Wallet” option.

As seen in the graphic at the top of this article, the digital certificate holds data that includes the user’s date of birth, document number, and the “valid from” date, which is the date the user’s second dose was received. The back of the pass includes the individual’s Healthcare Identifier, what vaccine was received, and the date of both doses.
