Ming-Chi Kuo: Apple’s ‘iPhone 15’ to Boast Under-Display Touch ID, ‘iPhone Fold’ to Debut in 2024

Since Apple’s iPhone 13 just debuted, it’s time to talk about the “iPhone 15,” right? Well, industry analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo seems to think so. In a note to investors shared by AppleInsider, Kuo predicts that under-display Touch ID will arrive in 2023, plus he reveals when he’s expecting the long-rumored folding iPhone to debut.

The note discusses details about the financial prospects of Apple’s iPhone component suppliers. Also in the note is a timeline for the return of Touch ID to Apple’s flagship iPhone lineup, as well as when Kuo expects a folding iPhone to hit shelves.

Kuo says a one-year delay for the under-display Touch ID and the folding iPhone is due to “lower than expected development progress.” Kuo did not specify what the delays were caused by.

Kuo also discussed the 2022 iPhone SE with 5G, saying he sees no change in the timetable from his previous predictions. He also again mentions a “new and more affordable 6.7-[inch] iPhone” and a punch-hole display plus a 48-megapixel camera arriving in the 2022 iPhone.

Also in the note, he says that the later-than-expected rollout of the features will “hurt iPhone shipments in 2022 and 2023.”

Kuo sees a foldable iPhone possibly hitting shelves as early as 2023. Kuo believes Apple will be able to fix production issues with the foldable technology in 2021, possibly launching a 7.5 to 8-inch foldable iPhone two years later. The display is predicted to have a 3,200 x 1,800-pixel resolution.

Kuo had previously said that Apple would manufacture between 15 million and 20 million foldable iPhone units in 2023. However, with the latest report, Kuo believes that it will be ready for the traditional iPhone season, but in the fall of 2024.
