Apple Releases tvOS 15.1 to Public: Include SharePlay Feature

Apple today released tvOS 15.1, the first major update to the latest tvOS operating system that launched in September 2021. tvOS 15.1 is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (1st and 2nd generation ) and the ‌Apple TV‌ HD.

The ‌tvOS 15.1 update can be downloaded via the Settings app on the ‌‌Apple TV‌‌ by going to “System” -> “Software Update.” If you have automatic software updates turned on your Apple TV will be upgraded to ‌‌tvOS 15.1 automatically.

Along with the usual bug fixes and performance enhancements, today’s update adds support for SharePlay.

SharePlay allows content from the ‌Apple TV‌ app to be watched over FaceTime with friends and family members. The content is synced across the devices of all participants so you can all view TV and movies right alongside others, discussing if you wish.

There are shared controls for playing content, pausing, rewinding, and fast-forwarding. A smart volume feature automatically lowers the audio of a movie, TV show, or song when someone speaks.
