Apple Seeds Second Beta of macOS Monterey 12.1 to Developers for Testing

Apple today seeded the second beta of macOS Monterey 12.1 to developers for testing. The new beta comes a week after the release of the first beta.

The developer build of macOS Monterey 12.1 can be downloaded through the Apple Developer Center and once the correct profile is installed, succeeding betas will be available through the Software Update mechanism in System Preferences.

As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver Mac, instead only installing betas on devices set aside for testing purposes.

The beta enables SharePlay for FaceTime users. SharePlay allows users to share songs, videos, or their screens during a FaceTime call. For reasons not shared by Apple, SharePlay was removed from iOS 15 and macOS 12 after a few betas.

However, the feature has made a return for iPhone and iPad users with iOS 15.1, and soon Mac users will also be able to use SharePlay.
