USPS Now Accepting Apple Pay for Online Payments – Still Not Accepting It At Branches

USPS Now Accepting Apple Pay for Online Payments – Still Not Accepting It At Branches

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is now accepting Apple Pay as payment online. However, if you’re making a trip to a postal office, you’ll still have to pay using credit cards or cash, as Apple’s contactless payments solution likely won’t be available at the counter for quite a while.

A recent update to the USPS website allows using Apple’s mobile payments system for some transactions, including through its assorted apps.

This allows Apple Pay users to pay for transactions from The Postal Store, PO Box Online, Every Door Direct Mail, Click-N-Ship, and USPS Tracking Plus among others. Users must be using Safari version 10.0 or later on a supported iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

A change in the over-the-counter USPS system to accept Apple Pay would require a major upgrade in infrastructure and terminals, affecting some 34,000 locations across the United States. The government (usually) moves slowly, so it may be quite a while before we see Apple Pay acceptance at the USPS branches.
