MagSafe Battery Pack Now Supports Faster 7.5W Charging Speed After Firmware Update

Apple earlier this week released a firmware update for the MagSafe Battery pack for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models that offer support for MagSafe accessories.

A support document for the MagSafe Battery Pack says users that update the accessory’s firmware can enjoy 7.5W charging while on the go, up from the previous 5W limit.

The updated firmware began being rolled out over the air on Tuesday. The updated version of the MagSafe Battery Pack‌ carries a 2.7.b.0 version number.

To determine if your Battery Pack has been updated, do the following:

  1. Attach the ‌‌MagSafe Battery Pack‌‌ to a MagSafe-compatible ‌iPhone‌.
  2. Open up the Settings app.
  3. Tap on “General.”
  4. Select “About” and then choose “‌‌MagSafe Battery Pack‌‌.”
  5. The installed firmware version is listed at the bottom of the “‌MagSafe Battery Pack‌” section.

To update the MagSafe Battery Pack, you can connect it to an iPhone and wait for up to a week. Or you can a Lightning cable to a ‌MagSafe Battery Pack‌ and then plug in the USB side to an ‌iPad‌ or Mac to initiate the update process, which can happen in minutes.

When plugged into a Lightning cable, the ‌MagSafe Battery Pack‌ can charge at the full 15W, but that is not possible when it is used without a power source.
