YouTube’s picture-in-picture support for iOS will begin rolling out in the next few days, allowing all users – not just premium subscribers, to close the YouTube app and continue watching a video in a small pop-up window. The move comes following a lengthy testing period for the feature.
Google announced back in June that picture-in-picture support would be rolling out to both premium and non-paying YouTube app users in the U.S. However, users in some other countries have also been able to get the feature working.
Until now, only YouTube Premium subscribers have had access to the picture-in-picture mode on iOS as an “experimental feature.”
On Sunday, in a tweeted response to a user having problems accessing the experimental feature, YouTube said picture-in-picture would be available in “a matter of days” for devices running iOS 15 and later.

Picture-in-picture allows viewers to continue to watch playback while using other apps, Users simply tap the picture-in-picture button to move the video to a smaller window that floats over other apps.
While the new feature had been expected to be available sometime last year, YouTube has extended the launch window several times due to extended testing periods.
