Apple Reportedly Evaluating OLED Displays Ahead of Mass Production

Apple will begin evaluating BOE’s samples of OLED panels intended for the upcoming iPhone 14 this week, The Elec reports.

The OLED display panels the report refers to are intended for the standard, 6.1-inch ‌iPhone 14‌ model, with mass production due to begin between July and August.

The displays are being sourced from Chinese display maker BOE, which earlier this year faced controversy earlier this year when Apple discovered BOE had secretly changed the circuit width of thin-film transistors used on OLED panels for the iPhone 13.

BOE executives made a visit to Cupertino in order to resolve the situation with Apple, the OLED panels were approved once more.

Apple had been expected to approve BOE’s return to the supply chain for various reasons, not least because the supplier’s presence in the supply chain puts pressure on Samsung Display and LG Display to be more competitive and cut prices on their displays.

BOE hopes to receive Apple’s approval before the end of June, but the supplier is said to be several weeks behind Samsung and LG.
