Philip Elmer-DeWitt Lists Best and Worst Apple Analysts: Q3 2022

Journalist Philip Elmer-DeWitt has released his list of the best and worst performing Apple analysts for the third fiscal quarter of 2022. The list compares the performance of both independent and professional analysts during the quarter.

While traditionally the list has shown the independents almost always out-performing the professional analysts, this quarter, the tables have turned.

The June quarter Earnings Smackdown went to the pros, who took six of the top 10 spots and only two of the bottom 10.

A tip of the hat to…

  • Friend-of-the-blog Christopher McManus, whose nailing of Apple’s $120 EPS put him in first place for the top and bottom lines.
  • Wedbush’s Daniel Ives, whose good-enough estimates down the line put him in first place in all categories.

A way of the finger at…

  • Independents Jeff Galanti and Brian Loftuswhose bets that Apple would score a massive beat earned them a pair of last place finishes.

The full list of analysts, sorted by the top-and-bottom lines, is shown in the graphic below, with the pros in blue and the amateurs in green.

Below is a color-coded spreadsheet that shows, in each category, best, second-best, and third-best estimates (in bright green and light blue) and worst, second-worst, and third-worst (in bright red and pink).
