Apple’s rumored 10th-generation iPad is currently in production and will feature “major” design changes, says a report by Taiwanese website DigiTimes.
Although the report didn’t provide any specific details about the 10th-generation tablet’s new design, there have been plenty of rumors circulating around the web. Those rumors claim the new iPad will boast thinner bezels with a larger 10.5-inch display, and a USB-C port, and will retain its Touch ID button.
The new, lower-cost iPad is expected to be powered by a faster A14 Bionic chip and 5G support on cellular models.
DigiTimes says Apple still plans to debut the new iPad in September. However, temporary power restrictions imposed by the Chinese government on factories in China’s southwestern Sichuan province have led to concerns that production might be delayed.
An intense heat wave has led the government to cut power to industrial users in 19 cities throughout the province until August 20 in order to prioritize residential power supply. All industrial power users must suspend all production during this period, the report says.
iPads are mainly produced in Sichuan by manufacturers Foxconn and Compal, and the report says that a six-day shutdown due to the power cuts would likely not impact overall production efficiency. However, extended power restrictions could affect the mass production of products.
