Apple to Allegedly Allow Deletion of iPhone Wallet App in iOS 16.1

Apple’s built-in Wallet app on the iPhone will apparently be able to be deleted from the device, as soon as iOS 16.1. This is indicated in code in the iPadOS 16.1 beta discovered and shared by 9to5Mac.

The code indicates that the Wallet app will be able to be downloaded from the App Store if it has been deleted from a device and the iPhone user attempts to use a feature like Apple Pay.

Currently, the Wallet app can be hidden from the iPhone’s Home Screen, but cannot be truly deleted.

We’ll have to wait until the release of iOS 16.1 to test if the Wallet app will be delectable, so things could change before that happens.

The Wallet app stores debit and credit card info, as well as Apple Card payment info, as well as allowing users to store their airline tickets, shopping loyalty cards, and more.

Apple should publicly release iOS 16 sometime during September, with iOS 16.1 debuting at a later date, likely alongside the delayed launch of iPadOS 16, which will be released in a “16.1” version.
