Some AirPod Pro 2 Users Report Issues With Connection Randomly Disconnecting

Some AirPod Pro 2 Users Report Issues With Connection Randomly Disconnecting

Some owners of the second-generation AirPods Pro are reporting that they are experiencing random disconnection issues with their new earbuds as they listen to music or watch video.

Reported Symptoms also include an iPhone or iPad showing the ‌AirPods Pro‌ as connected to the device, but no audio actually being played. Reports suggest the bugs are sporadic and apparently not caused by anything specific, and there is no clear fix. MacRumors reports users in its MacRumors forum are reporting the issues.

Mine keep disconnecting from my iPhone randomly throughout the day. Also sometimes it shows that they’re connected but sound doesn’t come through so I’ll have to reconnect them. Hope this is just a software issue.

I have connection issues as well. Similar to others sometimes it shows connected to my iPhone in settings but there’s no audio playing through AirPods just through iPhone and the AirPods do not show up drop down shade.

Users of the original ‌AirPods Pro‌ have reported similar issues since the earbuds debuted in 2019.

The second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ began arriving to customers on Friday, so it’s still unclear just how widespread the bug is. Users are encouraged to make sure the AirPods and their iPhones are updated to the latest firmware and iOS version. The latest firmware for the second-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ is 5A377.

There isn’t any way to manually update the firmware of the earbuds, and the new software will be installed over the air while the AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max are connected via Bluetooth to an iOS device.

If you place the AirPods in their case, connect them to a power source, and then pair them to an iPhone or iPad, they should update after a short period of time.

Here’s how to check the firmware version of your AirPods, AirPods Pro, and AirPods Max earbuds:

  1. Make sure your Airpods are connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or ‌iPad‌.
  3. Tap “General.”
  4. Tap “About.”
  5. Scroll down to ‌“AirPods,” and tap that.
  6. Read the number next to “Firmware Version.”
