Third iOS 16.1 Beta Brings Adaptive Transparency Feature to 1st-Gen AirPods

The third iOS 16.1 beta, released earlier this week, brings the Adaptive Transparency feature that originated with the second-generation AirPods Pro to the first-generation AirPods Pro.

As posted on Reddit, first-generation ‌AirPods Pro‌ owners who have the AirPods 5A304A beta firmware will now see an “Adaptive Transparency” toggle in the AirPods section of the Settings app.

Adaptive Transparency debuted with the release of ‌AirPods Pro‌ 2. The feature allows the AirPods Pro to block out loud sounds, such as sirens, construction work, or the loudspeakers at a concert without completely blocking out all noise.

AirPods Pro‌ 2 has an upgraded H2 chip that powers Adaptive Transparency, so it is uncertain how the feature works with the H1 chip in the original ‌AirPods Pro‌ works.
