Swift Playgrounds 4.2 Update Brings Improved iPad Interface, Machine Learning Lessons

Apple on Wednesday updated Swift Playgrounds to version 4.2, bringing an updated interface to the iPad, as well as new lessons covering Machine Learning.

Swift Playgrounds is Apple’s free learn-to-code app, which is available on the iPad and macOS.

The iPad version of Swift Playgrounds now offers an improved interface, including a customizable toolbar. Users can add their favorite items and new App Preview tabs allow users to quickly switch between multiple previews.

The new set of Machine Learning lessons teaches users to train an app to recognize images. Users learn to train the model with a rock, paper, scissors game.

The “Laying Out Views,” lesson challenges users to match a UI mock-up in code.

Swift Playgrounds is free and is available for the iPad in the App Store and for macOS in the Mac App Store.
