Bug in tvOS 16.1 Wrongly Identifies 128GB Apple TV as a 64GB Model

Bug in tvOS 16.1 Wrongly Identifies 128GB Apple TV as a 64GB Model

As previously reportedFlatpanelHD reviewed the 2022 Apple TV, and discovered an interesting bug in tvOS 16.1, the Apple TV’s operating system. tvOS 16.1 wrongly identifies the 128GB Apple TV to be identified as a 64GB model, causing the device to “run out of memory” once it has used up 64GB of storage.

The bug causes new models of the ‌Apple TV‌ with 128GB of storage to think they only have 64GB of memory when in reality they have twice as much storage. Once 64GB of storage is used users see the following message when attempting to download a new app: “The app can’t be installed because there isn’t enough space. Delete one or more apps or manage your storage in Settings.”

Unfortunately, tvOS 16.1 and 16.2 both appear to have a bug that affects the 128GB version which prevented us from installing additional games after storage usage exceeded approximately 64GB. This must be fixed ASAP.

FlatpanelsHD says the bug has not been fixed in the latest beta of tvOS 16.2. As mentioned by MacRumors, users affected by the bug can try queueing enough downloads together until their ‌Apple TV‌ passes the artificial 64GB limit.
