HBO Max Developers Working on Fix for ‘Can’t Play Title’ Errors in App on Apple TV 4K Devices

HBO Max Developers Working on Fix for ‘Can’t Play Title’ Errors in App on Apple TV 4K Devices

HBO is aware of the “can’t play title” errors that users have been experiencing in the HBO Max app for Apple TV and is working on a fix, says a report from The Verge.

The issue, which has been reported by numerous users, appears to affect all generations of Apple TV‌ 4K running tvOS 16.1 and the latest HBO Max app version 52.50.1, released November 16.

Although some users report the problem is hot or miss, others report they are unable to stream any content without seeing the playback errors. Some users do report that a few workarounds do temporarily fix the issues, including force quitting the app, logging out of the app, reinstalling it, or restarting the ‌Apple TV‌.

HBO’s SVP of communications Chris Willard told The Verge that they are aware of the issues and working on a fix.

Until then, HBO Max customer support suggests two temporary troubleshooting tips, including turning off HDR support (in Settings -> Video and Audio, changing the Format to SDR, and disabling Match Content, Match Dynamic Range, and Match Frame Rate options) and changing the resolution from 4K to 1080p or 720p. For users with a 4K TV with HDR, this will most likely not be a satisfactory solution, but hopefully, it will be a short-term one.
