iCloud for Windows Users Report Corrupted Videos, Images from Strangers

Users of Apple’s iCloud for Windows software are reporting issues with the software, including complaints of corrupted videos, as well as images from strangers appearing in their Photo Libraries.

MacRumors reports that it has seen complaints on its forums about the above issues. Some iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro users are running into issues with videos recorded on an iPhone and then synced with ‌iCloud‌ for Windows being unwatchable as the videos are turning black with scan lines.

Other users report seeing photos and videos that are not theirs appearing in their libraries when they attempt to watch these corrupted videos.

From MacRumors reader sleeping_ghost:

iCloud for Windows is corrupting videos recorded from an iPhone 14 pro max resulting in black videos with scan lines. On rare occasions, it is inserting stills into videos from unknown sources, possibly other’s iCloud accounts. I’ve been shown photos of other people’s families I’ve never seen in my life, soccer games, and other random photos. Obviously, this is extremely concerning and does not exactly make me feel safe using iCloud.

It has not been determined if the photos are images from other ‌iCloud‌ users, although it is likely. Windows users report seeing random families, children, and other similar photo content in their libraries.

The issue appears to be on Apple’s end, as deleting the iCloud for Windows app doesn’t appear to fix the issue. Users on Windows 10 and Windows 11 are reporting the issue. We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything more.
