Apple Places Tribute to Soccer Player Pelé on its Brazilian Homepage

Apple on Friday updated the homepage of its official website in Brazil with a tribute to Pelé, the popular Brazilian soccer player. The great player, known as “the king of soccer” passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Pelé, whose real name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, died in São Paulo, Brazil, at the age of 82. Pelé had suffered from multiple organ failures as a result of colon cancer. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2021.

Pelé was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward. Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time and named “the greatest” by FIFA, he was among the most successful and popular sports figures of the 20th century. In 1999, he was named Athlete of the Century by the International Olympic Committee and was included in the Time list of the 100 most important people of the 20th century. His 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, which includes friendlies, are recognized as a Guinness World Record.

Pelé won three World Cups with Brazil, not to mention many other titles. He was also known for being an ambassador against racism and for providing support to organizations that fight poverty.

Apple’s website in Brazil now shows an emoji of a soccer ball with a crown on it on a dark background as a tribute to Pelé.

Rest in peace, Pelé!
