Apple Seeds tvOS 16.2 Release Candidate to Developers for Testing

Apple on Wednesday seeded the release candidate version of an upcoming tvOS 16.2 update to developers for testing. The beta comes less than one week after the release of the fourth beta.

The tvOS 16.2 release candidate is compatible with the Apple TV 4K (1st and 2nd generation) and the ‌Apple TV‌ HD. The release candidate can be downloaded to a compatible Apple TV that has the proper profile installed, which can be done by downloading it onto the ‌Apple TV‌ using Xcode.

Today’s release candidate adds the Apple Music Sing karaoke feature for the third-generation ‌Apple TV‌ 4K, which Apple announced earlier this week.

tvOS updates are usually minor ones, focusing on under-the-hood bug fixes and performance improvements rather than public-facing changes.

tvOS 16.2 also enables Siri voice recognition on the Apple TV to provide a more personalized experience.

The new feature allows Siri to personalize your Apple TV features by recognizing your voice and switching to your Apple TV user profile. The feature will play your music, make personalized recommendations, and more. The feature supports up to six family members.

The new feature should be available to the public when tvOS 16.2 is released later this year.

As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to not install any betas on their daily driver Apple TV, especially early betas of new operating systems. Instead, only install betas on a device set aside for testing purposes.
