Apple Store Workers Across Australia Go on Strike Over Pay and Working Conditions

Union members working for Apple Stores across Australia are now on strike. Workers are striking over working conditions and pay.

Workers in Australia’s Retail and Fast Food Workers Union (RAFFWU), left their Apple Store locations at 15:00 local time on Friday, December 23 (23:00 ET on Thursday, December 22.) Strikers plan to stay on strike over Christmas Eve, likely affecting Apple’s holiday shopping season revenue in the country.

As reported by Reuters, at the center of the dispute is an eight-year-old agreement dating from 2014 which reportedly denies workers “weekends, consecutive days off, set rosters, set days of work, 12-hour breaks between shifts, overtime rates,” among others.

“The 2014 agreement is one such agreement which pushed workers below the legal minimum,” the union alleged, demanding the iPhone maker immediately return to the table and negotiate a fair agreement.

Apple declined a Reuters request for comment.

Australian Apple Store workers previously went on strike in October 2022.
