As reported by AppleInsider, an upcoming Fortnite server-side update will bring a new age restriction and will drop the ability of iOS and macOS users to spend V-Bucks.
The update limits playability, as players can use V-Bucks to buy season passes, skins, and other items, including weapons.
Players using the 13.40 version of Fortnite released in August 2020 on iOS and Mac won’t let players spend V-Bucks, the game’s currency. It also requires gamers to be over 18 to play, and players must agree to the new terms and conditions.
The V-Bucks restriction does not affect versions of Fortnite played through streaming game services.
In 2020, Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, just hours after Epic Games debuted a new direct payment option to get around Apple’s in-app purchases rules that give the Cupertino firm a 30% cut of the action. Now, that older version of the game will have the additional restrictions starting on January 30.
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney earlier this month tweeted a teaser about Fortnite’s return to the iOS platform in 2023.
In a tweet to celebrate the new year, Sweeney said, “Next year on iOS!” followed by an image of a Fortnite character looking up at fireworks that spell out 2023.
