Apple May Still Have Plans to Debut a New 12-Inch MacBook

A somewhat sketchy rumor shared by account “yeux1122,” on the Korean blog Naver claims Apple may be planning to bring back the 12-inch MacBook. The poster has a mixed track record when it comes to Apple-related rumors.

yeux1122 claims that a source at a company that supplies parts to Apple in Taiwan says Apple is preparing to reintroduce the 12-inch MacBook. The company is still weighing the decision and has yet to confirm if it will go forward with the new 12-inch MacBook. However,  Apple apparently plans to confirm whether the device will move forward to mass production as soon as the second half of this year.

In the past, we’ve heard from more reliable rumormongers that the 12-inch MacBook likely won’t materialize. In 2022, Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said he hadn’t heard anything about a new 12-inch MacBook, and display analyst Ross Young was also “skeptical” about plans for a new 12-inch MacBook.

The original 12-inch MacBook debuted in March 2015 and featured a thin and light design weighing in at just two pounds. The light notebook was the first Apple notebook to go fanless, sport a USB-C port, and featured a butterfly switch keyboard. While Apple updated the 12-inch laptop in June 2017, it discontinued it in 2019.
