Texas Man Tracks Stolen Truck With AirTag, Shoots and Kills Suspected Thief

A Texas man on Wednesday tracked his stolen truck using an Apple AirTag that was hidden in the vehicle. The man shot and killed the alleged vehicle thief.

The San Antonio Police Department received a report about a stolen truck around 1 p.m. on Wednesday (March 29). After contacting the police about the theft, the truck owner used an Apple AirTag to track the location of the purloined vehicle. The truck was found about 20 miles away in a shopping center parking lot.

The man did not wait for the police to arrive. Instead, he confronted the auto thief and the confrontation led to the man shooting and killing the suspected thief.

The owner of the truck was the only one that fired shots. It is still unknown if the thief was also armed. Police have not said whether the owner of the stolen truck will face charges over the shooting.

SAPD Public Information Officer Nick Soliz urged others not to take the law into their own hands.

“I know it’s frustrating to have your vehicle get stolen, but please don’t take matters into your own hands like this,” Soliz said. The “SAPD has plenty of resources to go into tracking down your vehicle.”
