Bloomberg’s Gurman: 15-Inch MacBook Air With Chip ‘On Par’ With M2 Found in Developer Logs

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman reports that an unreleased 15-inch MacBook Air powered by a processor that is “on par” with the M2 chip has been discovered in App Store developer logs. The much-rumored laptop is widely expected to debut at WWDC 2023 in June. Apple is also working on an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, says Gurman.

The chip in the new MacBook Air configuration found in the logs boasts an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, just like the M2 chip, along with 8GB of RAM and a display resolution equal to that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro. The laptop sports a “Mac 15,3” model identifier and is running macOS 14, which will be previewed at WWDC. (iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, and watchOS 10 are also expected to debut there.)

We’ve seen conflicting reports as to which chip the 15-inch MacBook Air will use, but the developer logs and rumors that the M3 chip is “coming later,” suggest that the initial 15-inch MacBook Air model will be powered by the M2 chip.

There have been plenty of rumors about a larger MacBook Air, stretching back to 2021. Reports about the gearing up of production of 15-inch display panels have been seen from several sources. It’s unclear exactly when the laptop would be released, but it will likely be announced by WWDC, which begins June 5. Apple announced the 13-inch MacBook Air with the M2 chip at WWDC last year.

Display analyst Ross Young in a tweet to subscribers earlier this week, said that while production is underway, he does not know the new laptop’s “precise launch timing” but believes it could happen as early as late April or early May.
